About the Cathedral Choir
When the Cathedral of All Saints was founded in 1872, serious thought was given to its music program, and the Choir of Men and Boys was soon established. Today, there are about 20 such choirs remaining in the United States.
The Choir of Men and Boys is well known for its musical excellence, having toured throughout the eastern United States and England. The choir has performed concerts with several choruses and orchestras in the Northeast, and has also released a number of CDs.
The Choir of Men and Boys sings the principal services at the Cathedral during the choral season, which runs from Labor Day until early-June. New choristers rehearse once a week for one hour, and learn the basics of singing and reading music during a training period.
Once a chorister officially joins the choir, he is invited to attend two rehearsals a week and sing at all choral services. This includes one Sunday morning service per week, and about ten Sunday afternoon programs throughout the year. We also sing at several non-liturgical engagements throughout the Albany area.
The Choir’s repertoire consists of sacred music written over the past six centuries. Performing works by great composers such as Bach, Handel, Durufle, and Mozart, can be some of the most rewarding and memorable experiences in the life of a chorister.
