Visiting the Cathedral Home

Liturgy

High Altar

Worship is at the heart of our life at the Cathedral, and we seek to offer a variety of styles, perhaps reflecting the variety of traditions within the Diocese of Albany, rooted in the catholic structure of Anglicanism.

The 8:30 AM Family Eucharist uses Rite II from The Book of Common Prayer in modern language, with a westward-facing Nave altar. Hymns and one or two movements of the ordinary are sung in congregational settings. Godly Play for children takes place in the adjoining St. Alban's chapel at 9:45 AM, running concurrently with Adult Forum and a light Breakfast in Pedersen Hall, the Cathedral undercroft.

The 11:00AM Solemn Eucharist uses the traditional language Rite I from The Book of Common Prayer. The ceremonial is of an eastward-facing celebration at the High Altar with three sacred ministers, and incense is used. The Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys sings a setting of the Eucharist each week (Palestrina, Darke, Mozart, etc), but there is also good congregational singing. The late Canon DeMille described the long-standing All Saints' tradition as that of the unusual combination of "elaborate ceremonial with adherence to the Prayer Book". Coffee and fellowship follows in the West End of the Cathedral.

4:00PM Choral Evensong is offered approximately once a month preceded by a half-hour organ recital at 3:30 PM. Lessons and Carols is offered during the Advent, Christmas and Epiphany seasons. On great feasts, a festive reception provided by the Friends of the Choir follows the service.

Weekday Worship
The Noonday Eucharist is celebrated each day at 12.05 PM. The Cathedral possesses some beautiful side chapels, and a different chapel is used for the service each day. Morning and Evening Prayer are said publicly at 8.30 AM and 4.30 PM respectively.
