Letter from the Bishop

The Right Reverend Daniel W. Herzog

Dear Friends of the Cathedral:

A little more than a century ago, a small group of people in the Diocese of Albany elected to create an edifice to worthily serve the Lord and His people. As a result, the Cathedral of All Saints and the Guild House were built to serve in that glorious work. The devout Episcopalians of that era had, indeed, prepared future generations with a great facility to carry out the mission that our Lord has asked us to do.

Much has been written about the Cathedral's historic treasures, and it is right to be inspired about a noble past. Now, after one hundred years, these facilities built by our forebears are in much-needed repair and restoration. We must now ask: "Can we repair the body and renew the spirit of this great building and realize all its enormous potential for doing God's work?" I believe we can.

To respond to this urgent spiritual and financial need, two major decisions were made in 1998, beginning with the appointment of the new Dean of the Cathedral, The Very Reverend Marshall J. Vang. Under his most capable leadership, the Cathedral will be able to move forward with commitment to ministry, both within the City and the Diocese of Albany. Secondly, and to this end, the "Adventure in Faith" has been reborn to ensure the physical integrity of our buildings, maintain current ministries, and create new ministries for the twenty-first century.

I now urge you in the warmest terms to give prayerfully and cheerfully in the days ahead to this important fund drive. With your help, we will continue our mission. Thank you.

In Christ Jesus,

The Right Reverend Daniel W. Herzog
Bishop of Albany
